Accoya® wood is wood that has been made durable by means of a special treatment method called acetylation. While other methods only make wood more durable on the surface, Accoya® wood is treated to its core. As a result, it can be processed without adverse effects. But there are more advantages:
Because of the special durability treatment, Accoya® can have a lifespan of 50 years if used above-ground. If it is in contact with ground water, it can last for more than 25 years, which makes Accoya® wood ideally suited for outdoor applications.
The wood used for Accoya® comes from sustainably managed forests and does not contain toxic substances, even after treatment. In other words, using Accoya® wood is completely safe. It has naturally enhanced thermal insulation properties, which makes it very suitable for processing in frames and doors that are intended to insulate.
Using Accoya® wood results in much lower maintenance costs. If you decide to paint Accoya® after all, you’ll find it’s very easy to paint, requiring little preparation and hardly any sanding. All the more reason to carefully consider whether the special properties of this wood couldn’t be the most profitable choice for you.
